How to Find a Minecraft Server IP Address

Want to join a Minecraft server but don't have the IP address? Here's every way to find one, whether you're looking for a specific server or just want to discover something new.

What Is a Minecraft Server IP?

A server IP (Internet Protocol) address is what you type into Minecraft to connect to a multiplayer server. It looks like one of these:

  • play.example.com — A domain name (most common for established servers)
  • 192.168.1.100 — A numeric IP address
  • play.example.com:25566 — A domain with a custom port number
Java Edition uses port 25565 by default. Bedrock Edition uses port 19132. If a server uses the default port, you don't need to type it.

Method 1: Use a Server List

The easiest way to find server IPs is through a server list website like ServerList.cc. Server lists show you:

  • The server IP address, ready to copy
  • What type of server it is (survival, PvP, skyblock, etc.)
  • How many players are currently online
  • A description of what the server offers
Just browse the list, find a server that looks interesting, copy the IP, and paste it into Minecraft.

Method 2: Check the Server's Website or Discord

If you know which server you want to join but can't remember the IP:

  1. Google the server name — Most established servers have a website with the IP displayed prominently
  2. Check their Discord — Server IPs are usually pinned in a #server-info or #how-to-join channel
  3. Check social media — Many servers post their IP on Twitter, YouTube descriptions, or Reddit posts

Method 3: Ask Friends

If a friend invited you to play on their server:

  • Ask them to send you the IP directly
  • If they're hosting locally, they'll need to share their public IP address and make sure their server port is forwarded
  • For hosted servers (Apex, Shockbyte, etc.), the IP is usually shown in the hosting dashboard

How to Join a Server on Java Edition

  1. Open Minecraft Java Edition
  2. Click Multiplayer
  3. Click Add Server
  4. Type the server IP in the Server Address field
  5. Give it a name (anything you want)
  6. Click Done, then select the server and click Join Server

How to Join a Server on Bedrock Edition

  1. Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition
  2. Click Play then go to the Servers tab
  3. Scroll down and click Add Server
  4. Enter the server name, IP address, and port
  5. Click Save then select the server and click Join Server
Note: On console (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch), you may need workarounds to connect to non-featured servers, since the Bedrock server browser is limited on these platforms.

Finding Servers by Type

Tips for Choosing a Server

  • Check the player count — Servers with active players are more fun
  • Read the description — Make sure the server offers what you're looking for
  • Test the connection — If a server has high ping (latency), try one closer to your region
  • Bookmark it — Once you find a good server, save it to your Minecraft server list so you don't lose the IP
