How to Set Up a Minecraft Factions Server
Factions — form groups, claim territory, raid with TNT cannons. Competitive, aggressive, and hugely popular.
Core Plugins
- SaberFactions or FactionsUUID — The faction system
- Vault + EssentialsX — Economy
- LuckPerms — Permissions
- ShopGUI+ — Shops
- OldCombatMechanics — 1.8-style PvP on modern versions
Power System
Each player has power (max 10). Factions need total power >= claims. Deaths reduce power. If power drops below claims, enemies can overclaim your land.
Economy
Spawner-based farming is the primary income. Sell mob drops and crops. Key purchases:
- Spawners ($10K-$1M) — Core progression item
- TNT — Essential for raiding, price it meaningfully
- Enchanted gear — Basic sets in shop, best gear craftable only
Raiding
TNT cannons breach enemy walls. Configure:
- TNT enabled, creeper/wither damage disabled
- Water/lava restrictions to prevent easy defense
- Optional: obsidian breaking after X TNT hits
PvP
Use OldCombatMechanics for pre-1.9 combat. Add:
- PearlCooldown to prevent spam
- KoTH events for scheduled PvP battles
- A warzone around spawn for open PvP
World Setup
- Smaller maps (5,000-10,000 diameter) create more conflict
- Flat or semi-flat world for fairer base building
- Strong anti-cheat (Grim + Vulcan) — PvP servers attract the most cheaters
Keeping It Competitive
- Weekly payouts for top factions
- Seasonal resets every 1-3 months
- KoTH and conquest events
- Leaderboards at spawn
